Ch8. 拆招CMF設計談出門走走找靈感
CMF is a specific discipline within industrial design that focuses on the development of a product’s color, material, and finish. Unwrap CMF shares bite-sized stories of CMF Design to inform and inspire those interested in this niche yet fascinating field, with digestible contents for anyone and everyone. As a rare field and very few dedicated exhibitions, where can CMF Designers go for inspirations?
Mobile phone industry as an example, CES and MWC are definitely one of the international exhibitions that designers yearn for. But are they good for collecting inspirations? (中文請見下方)
Clients from all over the globe will gather in the same place at this point in time, and therefore the primary purpose of these international exhibitions is for new product launches followed by customer meetings. If you have ever been assigned to any of these important tasks, you would know how they can drain your energy (and voice) quickly!
Of course these exhibitions are not intended for designers to collect inspirations! Though they can be very resourceful, however, there are only launched and already-in-the-market products with little inspirations for future directions.
In comparison, art-related exhibitions such as Milan Furniture Fair and Art Basel are more ideal for inspirations. The displayed art pieces in these exhibitions often play with various types of materials, providing a rich combination of colors, materials, textures, and light reflections.
Small-scale local shows should not be underestimated either! Feel Good Creation studio holds an annual CMF design show in Tokyo, which showcases local craftsmanship beautifully presented and with breathtaking details.
Perhaps it’s not time to travel globally yet, but I am sure there are also local exhibitions in your area with similar quality to spark CMF inspirations!

作為小眾的領域， CMF專展少之又少，那麼 CMF設計師可以去哪些展覽呢？
舉手機行業為例，諸如CES消費電子展、MWC世界行動通訊大會都是令設計師非常嚮往的國際大展。這些全球性展覽的佔地面積廣大，展品多到令人眼花撩亂，來回展場之間用到手扶梯步道一點都不誇張。
因為全球客戶會在這個時間點聚集同地，所以這些國際大展的首要目的是高調發佈新品，以及趁這個機會把拉攏客戶洽談商務。如果曾經在這些展覽上身負開會的重任，就能體會是如何被它們榨乾精力（及嗓門）的
這類型的大展當然不是為了讓設計師蒐集靈感，通常也只會展出已發佈的產品（未發佈的新品只會私下展示給VIP客戶），所以它們很難啟發未來性的設計靈感。
如果以CMF設計為出發點，如巴塞爾藝術展、米蘭傢俱展等藝術類型的國際大展會更有利於蒐集靈感。其展品經常運用各種材質作為媒介，再加上藝術創作本身具有的色彩特性，往往能體現帶有豐富層次的色彩、材質、紋理、及光影等疊加效果。
此外，小規模的本地藝術展也不容小覷喔！日本的株式会社FEEL GOOD CREATION往年會舉辦CMF專展，雖然規模不如國際大展，但每一項作品都結合了在地工藝及美學呈現，小小的細節都能令人嘆為觀止。
在疫情期間談這個話題好像有點壞人耶… 但台灣近期也有很多不錯的本地展唷！比如新竹春室玻璃及向罕設計在下週即將開幕的《玻璃自然形Glass in Nature》展覽，就非常令人期待～

International exhibitions like MWC are opportunities for brands to showcase their latest products and technologies.
Chinaplas is mainly a trade show with mostly raw material suppliers and manufactures, and very little design inspirations.
但因材料廠越來越注重於網羅CMF人才，所以近年也逐漸有一些CMF迷你專展在這些貿易會議中出現（如Covestro）。
The works from global art shows are often with various types of materials as the media, which can spark CMF design inspirations.
Feel Good Creation studio hosts annual CMF design exhibitions in Tokyo, where local craftsmanships are beautifully presented.
