Concept
To optimize costs and maintain consistency within the product lineup, Motorola One 5G Ace, released after its “siblings”, cleverly repurposed the same UVPP pattern tooling used in other devices within the series. The tooling creates a micro-pattern with a hint of holographic effect that shifts in various colors at angles. As Motorola One 5G Ace comes in a minimalistic design, to ensure the device’s sleek form remained the focal point without overshadowing it with vibrant colors, we opted for neutral colors that beautifully complemented the subtle yet sophisticated holographic effect. The final outcome showcased a stunning blend of minimalistic design and holographic detail, contributing to the device’s overall appeal and uniqueness in the portfolio.
CMF Development
One of the biggest obstacle during production is the color-matching between parts. Even the slightest difference in shades, especially in neutral colors, was highly noticeable. A slight shift towards red or green could instantly make the device appear mismatched. Considering Motorola One 5G Ace is crafted using various materials and processes, including UVPP under plastic, glass, metallic painting, and non-metallic painting, and is manufactured by multiple suppliers, aligning everything was crucial. The careful coordination of limit range and communication with internal and external teams all contributed greatly towards the the success of the final quality at delivery.
