When it comes to CMF, we often associate it with precisely engineered products like consumer electronics, automobiles, or household appliances. However, even as basic as hardware tools, they also require careful consideration of the CMF thought process. (中文請見下方)

Unlike consumer electronics, hardware tools have relatively simple functionality, yet the required material performance is equally important. Especially for outdoor use, the choice of materials and processes must withstand exposure to sunlight, extreme temperatures, and varying humidity conditions.

In scenarios where tools are held in hands, there is no room to risk accidental drops causing harm. This pretty much necessitates textures and surface treatments that provide a good grip and anti-slip design.

On another note, due to the lower pricing of hardware tools, manufacturing costs come with a limit, posing a challenge to find a cost-effective, and simple yet stable process.

The importance of CMF does not diminish with differences in product categories, user demographics, or pricing. On the contrary, each product category has its unique design considerations. In other words, as designers, we need to shift our perspectives for each product category, and position our design solutions to meet its specific requirements.

當我們討論CMF時,通常會聯想到3C電子、汽車、家電等精緻電器產品,然而,就連基本的五金工具也需要細心考量CMF的多方因素。

與其他消費型電子產品不同,五金工具的功能性相對基礎,但對於材料性能的要求卻毫不遜色,尤其在戶外使用時,需要具備耐曬、耐高低溫差、耐各種濕度氣候的材質和工藝製程。

另外,考慮到產品的使用場景,五金工具需要時常被握住,同時需避免被意外掉落造成傷害的風險,這就需要具有良好握持感、防滑的紋理和表面處理。

又或者,由於五金工具的價位較低,製造成本有限,這也帶來了另一項挑戰,即需要成本低廉且製程簡易穩定的工藝。

CMF的重要性並不會因為產品類別、使用者、或價位的差異而降低。相反地,在不同的產品類別中,都有其獨特的設計考量。換句話說,設計師需要在每個不同的產品類別中換位思考,提出符合該類別需求的設計方案。
