For a year but felt longer than a year, I was double-tasking grad school and full-time consultancy work (plus my non-profit project housing back in Taiwan). In May 2023, I wrapped up my contract with Logitech and received the master’s degree from Columbia University, and finally had a moment to catch up my breathe and resume to giving back to the design community.
It all started with a simple Instagram message. Smruti Mulchandani had a few questions about CMF Design. At the time I didn’t know, but Smruti happens to be the mentorship chair for IDSA – The New School Chapter. As I replied to her CMF questions, I also mentioned that I would be happy to chat in person if there was a group interest. And vio-la, she made it happen!
For two weekends, I took out an afternoon to enjoy a cup of coffee (and bubble tea) with students and chat about CMF Design. I have always been enlighten by the energy from students. These are students from two of the most established design schools in the world, and they are here on a Friday evening to learn about CMF Design!!! I am truly impressed by their curiosity to learn, and feel thankful for their gratitude and warmth.
I recently spoke with another professor from a design school, and we both agree – that education is an exchange that flows both ways. As we impart our knowledge, we inevitably gain new insights in return. I am not trying to sound modest, but a simple truth. Ever since I started writing about CMF Design and facilitating CMF workshops, I gain clarity over the broad spectrum that CMF Design can encompass. For every question I have been asked, it motivates me to continue to grow along my own path ??
With coffee (or bubble tea) raised in the air, cheers to this summer endeavors 2023. Look forward to speaking with young and creative minds again when the fall semester arrives!
